I typically make this Mexican mule recipe with vodka because that’s the usual way people make it. But I started to wonder if I could experiment with different spirits, spices and flavors, and different ginger beers. I started with tequila because it used to be my spirit of choice. But I felt like I haven’t been giving it the appreciation it deserves; and have just been using it in margaritas. So, how could I make this drink different and not just a typical mule but with tequila. Duh, make it spicy like I make my margaritas. The balance of the tequila, ginger beer and jalapeño are amazing and I’ll be putting this on full rotation. I’m not even kidding it was so good I even made a second.

What tequila do I use? I personally love Tres Agaves mainly because of how pure and unaged it is PLUS it goes straight from the still to the bottle in Jalisco, Mexico. It’s one of the very few 100% agave brands that is still produced in the town of Tequila from a single source. (that gives herbs and citrus flavors to the tequila) Plus it’s not only great for my mules, palomas and margaritas but it’s delicious to sip alone without a mixer.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Copper Mugs
  • Tresagaves Tequila
  • Ginger Beer
  • Jalapeños
  • Lime Juice
  • Chili Lime for dusting if you prefer

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Cut up jalapeño. Muddle 1/2-3/4 of jalapeno (depending on how spicy you like it) in bottom of mug.
  2. Put ice in cup.
  3. Pour a shot of tequila in cup.
  4. Pour ginger beer about 3/4 of the way full.
  5. Top off with fresh lime juice and stir.
  6. Garnish with a jalapeño, lime wedge and chili lime seasoning.
  7. ENJOY! It’s absolutely delicious!
