My kids would live outside if I let them. I try to let them eat outside at least a couple times a week and they are always begging me for picnics outside or at the park. Summer is basically picnic season and it’s always such a fun memory for them and for me. Being outside and one with nature is so beneficial for your children. What do you really need when it comes to preparing for a picnic outside with little ones? Today I decided to share the picnic essentials we take for our family, keep scrolling to find out!
Summer Picnic Essentials:
- Pack a picnic basket or even their lunch pails from school.
You want it to be portable and easy to carry from point A to point B but also easy to clean up. Bringing a basket or lunchboxes make it easy to carry everything in and dispose as needed.
- Bring paper towels.
(Brawny is the best) At least a roll. Children are messy! My kids are notorious for getting food all over them and all over everything else. Brawny Tear-A-Square® is available at Kroger which makes it super convenient because you can run by and get a fruit tray, sandwich stuff and popsicles or a treat as well. What I love most about Brawny Tear-A-Square® is that you can choose a full, half or quarter sheet size. The quarter sheet size is not only perfect for little hands but also creates less waste, without giving up the strength of Brawny paper towels.
- Don’t forget sunscreen.
Sunburns aren’t fun for adults but they definitely aren’t fun for kids. While we’re at it some mosquito or tick repellant would be ideal as well.
- Have picnic games.
I love outdoor toys like jump rope, water sprinklers if you’re in your yard, hopscotch, frisbee or tag just to name a few.
- Obviously snacks and food.
Think sandwiches, grapes, pretzels, cheese and a treat like a popsicle or s’mores if you’re at home and have a fire pit. We also order a pizza sometimes and make it super easy.
Some of my favorite childhood memories are backyard picnics or campouts with my dad and stepmom. We had so much fun roasting s’mores, eating dinner and just playing. I want to make those same memories with my kids. I’m so excited for all the picnics we plan on having this summer 🙂
