Being a woman in today’s world is hard enough as is, but when you add being the one to make the majority of big decisions in your household to the mix, it can become overwhelming. In today’s society, there’s this weird
“label” that’s almost put on you as a woman where you are expected to make all of the big decisions but also treated like you have no knowledge in the matter.
When it comes to household repairs, big buys such as cars/homes/etc., we have a big responsibility whether we’re married or single, moms or no kids, or whoever we may be. In my case, I am married, and my husband is gone to work every single day while I work from home. Thus, whenever someone is here fixing the A/C, the flooded bathroom, the torn-up deck, it’s always me who is here asking and answering all of the big questions.
There have been multiple instances where something in our house needed to be fixed and as the repairman sat down to talk over everything, he treated me as though I had no understanding or education on the problem at hand, and pressured me to make certain decisions based on his suggestions. This is why it is SO important to educate yourself on the items at hand and also to pick reputable companies that won’t treat you like this.
Long story short, we did NOT take his advice for our A/C unit and instead (thank God) found an amazing company named Hiller to replace and restore our A/C unit, and couldn’t have made a better decision. Their technician came and assessed the damage and fully explained the situation to me clearly while offering all the solutions and recommendations. The part I loved the most is how they explained it in detail so I truly understood what was going on. Another HUGE plus with Hiller was the fact that they send a same day text with a detailed time frame that notifies you of the arrival time with the technician’s photo! As a woman who is typically the only person in the house (with young kids in tow) this gave me so much comfort to know that Hiller wants their customers to feel completely safe and build that level of trust. I have praised their customer service on Instagram and had so many direct messages of people agreeing they are the BEST. I cannot say enough good things about the professionalism and customer service of this company.
All in all, with the way society stigmas are progressing regarding women making the decisions as much as their husbands (if not more at times) in addition to more women being the head of their own single households, it’s important to educate yourself and choose reputable companies. In all honesty, I change way more lightbulbs than I thought I would but I’m ok with it and in some weird way feel empowered by the knowledge I have gained.
I wanna raise my daughters to feel empowered in their decision making and know that they are confident making big life decisions. That’s where this post comes in hand. Whether you’re reading this for yourself or for your daughters, there’s nothing wrong with educating yourself and most importantly, being confident.
