2020 is my ‘Karen.’ Coming in hot right after pumpkin spice season. So basic of her. 2020 simply won’t stop being ‘extra’ (extra annoying) and it’s putting a wrench in every single human’s plans. Not cool Karen.
We are now 8+ months into this COVID-19 “new normal”; and admittedly, at some points over that 8+ month duration, I was stretched (physically, mentally & emotionally) to my limits in every aspect of my life: as a mother, as a wife, as a business woman; as a friend, etc.
So my feelings on the global pandemic at this point are as follows:
Isolation is NOT my favorite. Blurring the “roles” of home/work/school/play life has got me feeling all sorts of “NOPE.” This mask stuff is the pits. (I mean have you had the pleasantry of having no choice but to sneeze directly into your mask?! just wait. and btw sneezes come in threes.) But hey, It’s 2020 and I will cry if I want to.
Basically, I feel more than ever, I need another me. Or 3 of me. Luckily, I found a local gem of a company called Nashville House Mom (NHM); a tailored concierge & private chef service. Honestly, its a perfect way to make being at home all the time, feel less like being at home all the time.
My family took advantage of NHM’s cooking classes for kids, which can be catered to your child’s skill level. That being said, we opted for a one-time cake decorating class……because, well, CAKE!!
NHM’s Chef Mollie promptly arrived on time at our home. She brought all necessary utensils. The ingredients were fresh, prepped and portioned out beforehand.
She began by teaching them how to make garlic knots (which were mom tested, and absolutely mom approved.) Then each of the girls made their own little cake, as Mollie guided them through some icing tutorials and provided sprinkles galore!
I was sincerely impressed how she easily engaged with both my girls, ages 3 and 7; and met them at their individual skill levels. Trust me, I admire any child whisperer. So props to you and your patience Chef Mollie.
This cooking class was most certainly a success on all levels. Charlie ate her weight in sprinkles and Keatyn let her inner icing artist out, while mommy and daddy were able to relax and enjoy their yummy creations! No regrets.
I found it to be an excellent way to smoothly transition the girls from daytime school into our nighttime routine. Plus, since NHM and Chef Mollie promote overall well-being, she went the extra mile and prepared a meticulously labeled, ready-to-serve, healthy family meal for us to enjoy:
Red Lentil ‘Sunday Gravy’ Pasta Dinner; Roasted Seasoned Vegetables; Fresh Strawberry Goat Cheese Summer Salad; and the cherry on top- Hand-Tied (by the girls) Garlic Knots
It was mainly prepared to keep us all from falling deep into sugar comas; but not having to make dinner was truly the VIP treatment for this momma!
Best part- she left the kitchen just as she found it! She gets it. The whole experience was professional and pleasurable. NHM also offers private cooking classes for all ages; family style dinners or chef prepared meals for events. Take a visual tour of NHM on IG @nashvillehousemom.
Our family is looking forward to using NHM again in the future, as we love to support local Nashville businesses. “The only thing better than first class treatment, is first class treatment at my door step. ” -ME
