With the pressing uncertainty happening all over the world right now, it is important that we take the time to reflect on our mental health and well-being. There are many people out there (also speaking for myself when I say this), that are having to adjust to current life and what their expectations were for themselves during this time. It has most definitely been a difficult transition and I think it’s important that we give ourselves a grace period during this time. With that being said, there are many ways that you can check in with yourself and self-care during this time.
One option for this would be a short local getaway if you have the luxury of getting away. Although it’s not recommended to travel, this is a great safe option if you’re looking to escape and find a change of scenery. There are currently no local travel advisories or temporary restrictions on lodging, including short-term rentals in Dekalb county, which is right outside of Nashville.
There are also strict cleaning guidelines in place for Airbnb’s to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 that I will link below. There are many hosts that are looking to welcome local guests and there are two available Airbnb’s close to the Nashville area in Dekalb county with an excellent super host that are particularly ideal for seclusion and safety… not to mention they both have stunning views and the home structures are a work of art. I have stayed at the Treehouse with a group of girlfriends and we had the best time.

I wanted to include a recent airbnb getaway review of the Tennessee Cabin Airbnb as I feel these guests did an incredible job describing how truly exquisite these properties are –
“We really enjoyed staying at Marissa’s cabin. The view of the mountains and lake from the front porch(es) was absolutely beautiful. We walked around the area quite a bit and explored, even hiked down to the lake a few times. Relaxed in the hot tub and by the fire each evening. We cooked every meal there. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you’d need to cook and even store leftovers. They have both a keurig and a regular coffee pot, and they even supplied the pods for the keurig. The kitchen had all of the essentials there, including oil, spices, seasonings, napkins, paper towels, etc. I brought most of our own stuff because most of the time this is not the case. It was definitely nice for a change!! I really appreciated that. They even provided soap, shampoo and conditioner. There was plenty of towels. Plenty of everything! They had board games and even a portable karaoke machine. The beds are very comfortable too. I communicated with Marissa a couple of times, she was very responsive, friendly and helpful. We drove around to a couple of parks and recreation areas around the lake, we did some hiking and my husband and son did some fishing. We stayed almost 10 days, and could’ve stayed longer. I would recommend this place to anyone! It was a wonderful quiet secluded getaway. Grocery and gas stations about 15 min away. If circumstances were different currently, we would’ve ventured over to Nashville since it’s only an hour away, but maybe next time! Thank you for a wonderful getaway.”

As we approach over a month of completely changing our way of life, our mental health is declining and affecting more than the virus alone I’m sure. Sometimes it’s good to just change up the scenery and recharge. There is a way to do it safely and responsibly. Get your groceries, bring sanitizing wipes to wipe them down and just relax in the mountains away from everyone and just connect with nature again. Stay safe friends!
