This prepping for kindergarten post is sponsored by Kohl’s but as always all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s hard to believe we are prepping for Kindergarten! I swear it was only yesterday my baby girl was learning to walk. They say time goes by fast when you have kids. They weren’t kidding. It goes even faster with two. It’s really hard as a parent to let go. I know that without a doubt I’m gonna shed a few tears in a few weeks. It’s such an emotional time when any of your kids start kindergarten, but especially the first and last I’m sure. Then you start to second guess yourself, “Is my child emotionally ready for Kindergarten?” That depends on a few things. Here is a quick checklist to make sure they’re ready:
Has your child been in a school setting, like preschool for example? Is your child old enough? Some parents end up holding their children back because their birthday is too close to start date for example. Does your child know their ABCs and can they write their name? Can your child follow rules, listen, play well with others etc? Kindergarten is no longer the kind we grew up in with coddling and nap times. There is structure now with a heavy emphasis on education.
Let’s talk about first day outfits for school. When I was a kid that was the most important decision. You HAD to make an entrance. The unfortunate part of that is it can cause other children to look at the outfit more than the person. It can cause other children to feel inferior to others rocking the high-end duds. At Keatyn’s school they have enforced uniforms and even though I’m sad I don’t get to dress her up each day, I am glad that it takes the guessing out of each day. I searched high and low for uniforms because the polo isn’t allowed to have an emblem on it. One of my favorite places to find children’s clothes is Kohl’s so I looked there first to see what deals they have. The cool thing about Kohl’s is you can stack coupons. I found Keatyn some lightweight polos in all different colors for $!
As a busy mom who runs after 2 kids all day and also works from home, I have to dress for comfort and function. However I also have to look like a decent human being. I picked up these cropped blush jeans for less than $25 (it comes in 5 different colors) and paired it with this cute sleeveless shirt. It is soooo lightweight and roomy. It is perfect for summer. They have multiple colors but navy is my favorite. Then I topped it off with the cutest feather necklace. Guys, I got this ENTIRE outfit for $50. That’s seriously unbelievable.
Keatyns outfit is uniform approved. There are more than 9 different colors in THIS polo shirt for $12. Literally these leggings are $6!!!! Of course she’s rocking her Converse sneakers because hey, she wants to be like mom. Also her entire outfit from head to toe is $50!
I’m not overreacting when I say our lives are hectic in the Houston household. In addition to my work schedule and Keatyn starting school, the real craziness begins after school is out. She has an education enrichment class Monday and Thursday evenings, dance on Mondays, swim on Wednesdays and gymnastics on the weekend. I’m basically either working or driving the majority of my day. She has outgrown her dance clothes so we went shopping for some new ones that same day. I found the cutest leotard for $11 and these ballet shoes for $14, I mean that’s cheaper than any other department store guys. It comes in black and pink. It’s perfect for her ballet class.
When I’m running around like crazy there’s nothing better than dressing in comfort. Honestly, I’m a mom. I live for workout apparel even if I don’t go to the gym regularly. It is my go to every single time. Keatyn also has hip hop class directly following ballet so we picked up this adorable Nike outfit from Kohl’s also. Her pants are top are a size 6. She loves dressing like me and its super fun.
I live for lounge pants that are functional for going out in public so these Nike capris were no brainers for me. I paired with this workout tank because I loved the envelope back. This outfit is ideal for the on the go mom who still wants to look cute running errands. Plus all the looks I bought for Keatyn and I are very reasonably priced. Also TODAY starts Kohl’s Family & Friends Sale where you can get 20% off with code FAMFRIENDS 7/27-7/30. Like I said before too, you can stack coupons with Kohl’s so it’s a win win. How are you guys prepping for Kindergarten or the upcoming school year? I would always appreciate any coping tips 🙂 Xoxo
