You may have been there before… You’re in your dream space and living it up with your significant other then BOOM comes a baby and you’ve grown out of your charming little downtown space. Well that was Matt and I a few years ago. We had a beautiful high ceiling loft condo right in the middle of all the action of Nashville that was walking distance to all of the cool Nashville spots our socialite hearts could take. But as soon as Keatyn was coming that became way more stressful than it was fun. We outgrew the space after a couple of years and moved to the suburbs. Our home was a short sale that needed a lot of work but it had great bones and was in a prime location so we acted quick. That followed with A LOT of home projects though. Doing a master bathroom remodel was something I wanted to start immediately. But as we all know it can be quite expensive.
Master Bathroom Remodel
As you can see we did quite the makeover and I opted for an eclectic/boho feel as opposed to a clean and simplistic vibe. I wasn’t going to change the granite and honestly that’s why I went with the funky tile pattern but as they were putting in the tile and moved the granite, they actually damaged my old granite so I had to replace it with something comparable and our old granite wasn’t an option. Ok let’s show a little bit of what my bathroom looked like before so I can share with you what all we did to update it step by step.
BEFORE…
Beautiful huh? Yeah it’s hideous. The only thing I even liked in the bathroom were the cabinets (because I had them painted and the handles switched early on when moving in) and the lighting which I had also replaced early on. I still decided to replace the lighting again because the farmhouse look didn’t match my boho vibe. So let’s make a list of all the changes/updates so I can explain each a little deeper…
We also changed out the shower faucet to a beautiful matte black one from American Standard. It’s perfect for any modern look to update your bathroom.
The bath tub. Our old bathtub was mold central. It was cracking and water would leak constantly and get in the wood. cracks. I opted for a freestanding tub because the look is not only glamorous but I knew it would help resell value. The one I chose was the acrylic Kipling Ovale from American Standard. It is a 69 in. freestanding soaker bathtub that is perfect for end of the day long bath. I used it basically 2 times a day when I was battling the flu last week and the deep bathing design is a HUGE selling point for me. It helps me relax and I love the luxurious look of the bathtub. I paired it with American Standard’s Contemporary Round Single-Handle Freestanding Tub Filler for Flash Rough-in Valve with Hand Shower (in Matte Black) and in my opinion that really elevated the bathtub to the next level. It makes it so easy to wash your hair or even better bathe my kids when I allow them in our bathroom. The hand shower is something I never knew I needed until I had it. No more days of trying to wash your hair in a sink.
The throne aka toilet. We also upgraded the place my husband spends most of his time in every night. Ok that wasn’t funny, he’ll kill me if he reads that. Ok what sold me on a new toilet was this is no average toilet, it is an ActiClean self cleaning American Standard toilet! I mean I still have to do regular cleanings but the self cleaning function allows it to self maintenance to where I don’t have to worry on a daily basis or if guests show up unannounced.
Lighting.
Ok I can finally talk about these show stoppers. Every single time I see these Hudson Valley lights it makes me so happy. They are the most beautiful, unique lights I’ve ever seen. Every single person who comes to see my bathroom travel over them. They are showstoppers, especially the main attraction chandelier. They just really make the bathroom decor pop.
As far as the bathroom decor goes, to truly give it that full boho vibe, I tried to mix in wood, bits of wicker, matte black and gold to give it that eclectic feel. I am so pleased with how it all turned out, especially since I did it all myself. No designers. I hope you guys like it as much as I do.
