I’m sitting here in the hospital waiting room since Matt had shoulder surgery today. I thought I would get SO much work accomplished but my attention span is that of my pug. Non existent. So instead I’m gonna just chat a little bit about life because I know I won’t lose focus on that. The recent shootings in Florida have just completely messed with me especially as a mother because I simply cannot imagine how those parents are feeling.
So I polled you guys on some things you might want me to touch on and a few of my mommas asked what a typical day is like for us in my home. I’m gonna dive a little further and explain what a busy week looks like and what a typical week looks like. So if you don’t know this about me already I am a stay at home, working mother of 2 daughters. Keatyn is in school but Charlie is home with me. So last week was pretty hectic. Now typically it’s not and I do that on purpose. I don’t RSVP to most events that I am invited to because 1. I’d rather be home with my babies 2. After a point you HAVE to realize what’s truly important in life and events happen literally every week. Insecure people are the ones who feel like they have to go to every single thing or they’ll be forgotten. (I’m talking to people with kids because if you don’t have a family to go home to then I don’t blame you for going to events) So I really pick and choose which ones are important and beneficial to my career when I decide.
The past two weeks I have had these events: Brooke’s Kendra Scoot event for the American Heart Association, Valentine’s Day, Movie date with my sis, Lindt event, Cycling blogger party for Liz’s bachelorette, CMT Music City Premier Party, Kittenish photo shoot, Podcast interview with Caroline, Matt’s surgery (today) and I’m hosting the Nashville Blogger brunch for Nash Fashion week tomorrow and have my friend Mallory’s baby shower Sunday. On top of that I leave for LA next week. Yeah hectic. So ALL of that is added on to my schedule.
A DAY IN MY LIFE AS A STAY AT HOME MOM
6:30 am || Wake up and get Charlie. Feed her & Keatyn. Get K dressed for school. Matt takes her. Play with Charlie, have my coffee downtime.
9/9:30 am || Put Charlie to nap and get anything & everything I can get done. Clean, shower, work or nap is typically my dilemma. So what are some things I do for work… well let’s see: catch up on emails (which surprisingly is one of the most tedious lengthy parts of my job), pitch to companies, edit videos, take photos and sometimes edit, construct blog posts, film tutorials or videos, make changes to website and code when needed, link to Reward style and other affiliate links, post on facebook, twitter, pinterest etc and reshape old content when possible. I’ll go more in detail on ALL of these i my How To Start a Blog series the next few weeks.
10:30 am || get Charlie and feed her lunch. Back to playing and learning.
1 pm || Put Charlie down to nap. Work, eat and all that again.
2/2:30 pm || Go pick K up from school. Sit in the car line for 20 minutes. Go home and fix her and Charlie a snack because she’s usually hangry.
3:30-5:30 pm || Do homework, play, any after school activities K has like swim, dance or Kumon.
5:30 pm || Dinner.
6 pm || Bathtime.
6:30 pm || Charlie’s bedtime. Brush her teeth, put her hip brace on etc. Spend one on one time with Keatyn.
7:15 pm || Read K a book, sing a song, brush her teeth. Put her to bed… which can be a lengthy process ha.
8 pm || Play HQ because well duh.
8:15 pm – 12 am || Work, work and work. Attempt to spend time with my husband, who is also typically working. Catch up on any tv shows (while working) Sometimes I have a girlfriend over and have wine (rarely).
Sleep…if you wanna call it that. I stalk my baby monitor all night and if Charlie even squirms I wake up. She sleeps uneasy in her hip brace and it gives me anxiety.
Miscellaneous: feed animals, take animals out, get groceries, run errands blah blah.
If you’re not a stay at home mom or a mom in general I get why you may not know how long the day is or how much actually goes on. Most of my child-less girlfriends don’t know until I explain to them the actual logistics of even leaving the house with my kids and what steps I have to take to even get out the door. (another reason why I don’t do much) So there’s a typical day and that’s not considering when I have events to go to. So if you see me in public and I look a hot mess, you now know why. Please forgive me ha.
