Is it just me or is everyone getting pregnant?! I have seriously been so tempted to try for another lately. I love my two girls more than anything on this earth BUT I really think they need a little brother. Who is to say we would actually pop out a boy and lord help me with three girls. The reality is that I absolutely love being a mom and I’d be fine with whatever I had, no matter the gender. I really loved being pregnant too actually. I know that everyone handles the whole process so differently and everybody’s bodies are built so different. For whatever reason my body just loved carrying my babies! I miss my bump all the time. I look back on these photos and they truly take me back to some of the most transformative times in my life! Sadly I didn’t take maternity photos with Keatyn and I regret it so much. I made a vow to do it with Charlie, if you’re on the fence please do it because you’ll never look back and regret that. Whoever said maternity photos were overrated, I strongly must disagree. So today I’m sharing my favorite family maternity photo shoot ideas.

Much like any photos you take, they are meant to bring back memories. To capture a moment of time that you can look back on. They take you through time travel and remind you of everything special or major happening in your life around the time they were taken. They take me back to the smells, the environment, how I was feeling emotionally at the time, what I was going through, where I was at on my journey with mental health, how deeply in love I was with my husband (and still am). Photos are extremely powerful ya’ll. It’s seriously a big part of the reason I do what I do. I subtract the logistics of it all and realize, wow. I really love what I do. But what I do is extra special because I’ll be able to look back and see an entire virtual timeline of my life, my kids lives, and everything in between. Sure, I don’t share every detail of my every day on here. However, I will be able to look back on this documentation and feel everything all over again. It truly is a blessing and something I will do my best to never take for granted!

Family Maternity Photo Shoot Ideas

  1. It is super fun/important to get a variety of photos with and without members of the family. Depending on how many kids you have, it is good to sort of stagger them in and out of the photos. You’ll want some with just your hubby, with the kids, with the oldest, the youngest, your fur babies, and then all of you together. It is important to have this variety because it will make each member of the family feel special. Plus, we all know how the dynamics vary between you and each child. It is super special to be able to capture this within each photo variety!
  2. Make sure you play with a lot of different poses. Sure, your photographer will have some guidance here. But we all know what feels good and comfortable when you’re in front of a camera. I would take some time before to explore this. Look at previous family photoshoots that you’ve done. Study them a bit before so that you don’t spend as much time trying to figure out what feels natural and what doesn’t.
  3. Attention to the belly! I hate to say the shoot is totally about the momma, because everyone in the family is included. However, it’s totally about the momma. Let the bump shine! I mean momma is the one growing a human for nine months. Maybe let her and the new little one stand out a bit. It is so fun to incorporate different poses and props around the bump! Plus, it lets you know that it’s a maternity shoot, and that you didn’t just shove your face with twelve donuts and a happy meal lol. Let the family’s excitement for your new little one show in the photos!
  4. BE SILLY! I honestly can say this is helpful for any photoshoot. Heck, for life. You never want to take anything too seriously. It’s important to be able to laugh at the imperfections in life. That’s what makes us human. That’s what makes memories so, well, memorable! I love being able to look back on photos and laugh at how goofy we all are. Not only does it make the experience that much better, but it will make for some way better/realistic photos too. Like we always say… CANDID!
  5. Remind yourself during the photoshoot why you’re doing it in the first place. Remember what is most important. Try to remain positive even if you’re having one of those days. Maternity shoots can definitely be stressful. But as long as you stay focused on the why, it should be one of your best memories. This is a time to celebrate a new human! Your little new human! You and your entire family are welcoming a new soul onto this earth. There is a whole miracle happening among all of you! Now if that’s not something to celebrate I don’t know what is. For you Momma’s, I promise you’re going to miss your belly in one way or another. I ask you to take a deep breath and acknowledge how BEAUTIFUL, STUNNING, INCREDIBLE, GORGEOUS, ANGELIC, AND AMAZING you are. In all of those pregnancy pounds, in all of the sick mornings, nights, and afternoons, in all of your swollen ankle glory – look at you. You’re absolutely perfect just the way you are my love.
