You’ve swiped right, got their attention and now you have the pre-first date jitters. Which are only intensified by the thought of picking out the perfect outfit for the right first impression. Or maybe you finally have a free night, found a trusted babysitter and want to remind the hubs why he is lucky to call you “wife.” Regardless of which situation better suits you, opting for an edgy date night look might feel too risky. But it’s definitely one that exudes confidence with a little bit of romance. Making it the key to date night success!
Edgy Date Night Look
To achieve this edgy date night look and channel your inner Angelina Jolie, you might have to step outside your comfort zone by pushing your own fashion boundaries. Don’t go overboard and create an edgy look that you feel uncomfortable wearing because then date night and your self-esteem will be on a one-way train to disaster.
I think insecurity is one of the most obvious and unattractive traits one can possess. So in order to feel confident you must walk the fine line of staying true to your personal style and standing out in a crowd.
Leather will be your best friend when it comes to pulling off a sleek edgy style. There are many assorted colors of leather but black leather just screams “badass” to me and needs to be a closet staple for anyone who wants to know what wearing empowerment feels like.
Don’t stress, if leather isn’t your style, you could also try distressed jeans with fishnets, a velvet bodice, a sheer or lace top, eye-catching heels, OTK boots or a killer fur jacket. Each one of these pieces could help to vamp up your date night outfit, taking it to the next level by adding the perfect amount of edge without looking too harsh.
The “edgy date night” look cannot be done right if you don’t balance these items with a softer sensual piece, like the rust colored satin midi dress I wore under the leather jacket with some dainty heels. It emanates a burlesque feel but in a much more posh manner.
As in every case, when putting together the “perfect outfit”, accessories including hair and makeup can be the exclamation point and round out the complete look. The straight blunt shoulder bob and dark nails are both edgy and polished. I prefer to pair this look with more subtle makeup, especially a nude lip. However, if you haven’t overdone it with the edginess could consider a cat eye or daring red lips.
The most important thing to remember is anyone can put together an edgy outfit with a little help, but ultimately the way you act and feel in that outfit will determine if you can pull it off or not. In the same sense, don’t let that intimidate you from making a statement on date night. We all should be able to walk into a room and feel unapologetically sexy and empowered at the same time, especially on date night. Its rare to be able to set the mood with an outfit but its a definite possibility with an “edgy date night” ensemble.
