This “CLEANING HACKS FOR THE BUSY WOMAN” is sponsored by P&G but as always all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Spring Cleaning Hacks:
Spring is officially here and you know what that means right? Time to get your home in tip-top shape, especially for allergy season. I have someone come clean my house 1-2 times a month and it gets out of hand sometimes with my kids and animals. I honestly vacuum and mop every day it seems. Sometimes all of that just isn’t enough. Your home needs a good, deep cleaning at least 2-3 times a year. When you clean on a general basis, it’s technically a superficial cleaning. You’re typically not getting down in the nitty gritty of things even when you think you might be. Deep cleaning means completely disinfecting your home. No cracks, hard to reach spaces, small crevices etc are spared in a deep cleaning.
Why do you need to spring clean?
- Well for starters it’s good for your health. The disinfection of your home eliminates pathogens, dust and allergens and significantly improves air quality.
- Deep cleaning hacks can also prevent mold before it can spread throughout your home. Mold can cause respiratory issues, skin irritation, coughing etc. If your house becomes infested with mold, it makes it unbearable to live in and hard to sell.
- How stressful is it when you are living in a dirty house? Mine isn’t even dirty but any mess gives me extreme anxiety. Deep cleaning your home can reduce unnecessary stress. Decluttering and deep cleaning your home also helps to declutter your mind.
- Deep cleaning can help kill viruses and potentially prevent the spread of deadly or harmful diseases. The first thing we do when someone is sick in our home is disinfect like mad people. If your home is clean regardless it makes it much easier to do so.
Where should I spring clean?
Baseboards and Walls || These things get neglected on a regular basis and at best we casually wipe them down. I use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to conquer these scuffs and marks. This also my go to tool for when my kids draw on numerous things in our home. You can also use it to clean doors, bathtubs etc.
Ceiling fans, blinds, tops of the walls and furniture || Swiffer Dusters are perfect for these tasks. The fibers have a dust lock adhesive that grabs onto the dust and traps allergens. It locks 2x more dust than a feather duster. I’ve been using these since my early 20s and they have multiple types to tackle any surface even high fans.
Dishwasher and Washing Machine || For the dishwasher, sprinkle baking soda all in the washer and 1 cup of vinegar then run a short cycle. Afterward wipe down. So easy and quick. For the washing machine, mix 1/4 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup water and add to the detergent part of your washer. Pour 2 cups of vinegar into your drum (where the clothes go) and wash on hottest cycle. Wipe down the entire washing machine with a sponge afterward and don’t forget the nooks and crannies.
Laundry || Spring and Summer are unfortunately blazing hot in most places. Heat causes sweat, sweat causes smells. In addition to that, we are more active during these months because of weather so we get grass stains, sweat stains, stinky clothes etc. A few options to demolish these annoyances are Gain Flings, Tide Meadow Pods and Downy Unstopable In-Wash Scent Boosters. Gain flings help bring 50% more original scent to your laundry and have an oxi boost, stain fighting agent to remove odors with Febreeze. Tide Spring Meadow Pods clean 10x more with an innovative, three chamber design. Each pod has 3-in 1echnology with highly concentrated detergent, a stain remover and a color protector making it much more cost-effective for your daily laundry. (Not sure about you guys, but my laundry is never-ending) Lastly, Downy Unstopables In-Wash Scent Booster will add up to 12 weeks of freshness to your laundry. It’s a simple task of tossing as many scent beads as you’d like into the cap and tossing in your washer before adding the clothes. Fresh. clean laundry… who doesn’t love the sound of that? Moms I know you do.
Upholstery, Carpets, Fabrics || You may think that vacuuming your carpet, rugs and couches get the job done but alas, it does not. There are still dust and allergens left behind on the fabrics. You should be doing this at least once a year. First vacuum. Vacuum your rugs, couches, carpet, mattress etc. Then use a cleaner on the items you can get wet with a spot bot or carpet cleaning machine and hand-wash ones that cannot by placing plastic underneath the rug and stone cleaning & towel drying. After they dry, finish it off with some Febreeze.
