I’ll be honest, besides my husband, we’re really not a big football family, but cheesy garlic stuffed bread rolls are absolutely my kind of Super Bowl tradition. For me, game day is all about cozy vibes, a kitchen full of my favorite people, and a spread of warm, cheesy appetizers that everyone keeps coming back to. My kids love themed food nights just as much as I do, and there’s nothing better than pulling these rolls apart, dipping them in marinara, and pretending we know what’s happening on TV.
These cheesy garlic stuffed bread rolls were inspired by a recipe I saw on Munchin’ with Maddie, and I immediately knew I wanted to make them my own for Super Bowl Sunday. Soft pizza dough stuffed with melty mozzarella, baked until golden, then brushed with a buttery garlic herb mixture? Say less. Shaping them into a football just made it even more fun, and honestly, my kids loved helping arrange them.
This is exactly the kind of recipe I love making for game day. It’s simple, comforting, and completely centered around eating together. Whether you’re actually watching the game or just here for the snacks like me, these rolls are the kind of appetizer everyone hovers around until they’re gone.

Why I Love These Cheesy Garlic Stuffed Bread Rolls

How to Make Cheesy Garlic Stuffed Bread Rolls
Start by preheating your oven to 400°F and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cut the mozzarella sticks into 1-inch pieces and set aside. Next, divide the pizza dough into 32 equal pieces. You don’t have to be perfect here, but keeping them close in size helps everything bake evenly.
Flatten each piece of dough slightly with your fingers. Place a piece of cheese in the center, then wrap the dough around it, pinching the seams closed. Roll it gently into a ball and place it seam-side down on the baking sheet.
Once all the dough balls are filled, arrange them in the shape of a football on the baking sheet. I like to form the outline first and then fill in the middle. They should be touching, but not crammed together.
Brush the tops with milk or egg wash and sprinkle lightly with flaky sea salt if you’re using it. Bake for about 18 minutes, then switch the oven to broil for 2–3 minutes until the tops are golden brown. Keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.
While the rolls cool slightly, make the garlic butter. In a bowl, combine the melted butter, parmesan cheese, garlic, basil, parsley, salt, and pepper. Brush the mixture generously over the warm rolls.
If you want to add the football detail, cut thin strips of cheese and place them across the top to look like laces. Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Storage and Reheating Tips
These are best enjoyed fresh while the cheese is still melty, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. To reheat, microwave for about 1–1½ minutes until warmed through and the cheese is gooey again.
If you make these cheesy garlic stuffed bread rolls, I’d love to know what you think. They’ve quickly become one of our favorite Super Bowl snacks, and honestly, I’ll probably be making them long after football season is over. This recipe was inspired by a version I saw on Munchin’ with Maddie’s blog, so if you want to check out her original take, definitely head her way. And if you’re anything like us and here for the food more than the game, save this one for your next cozy night in.
