The Weekend. We all live for it. We get the “vibes”. We cherish our weekends so much we have renamed weekdays with hashtags; like Wedsnesday a.k.a. #Humpday to remind us we are over the “hump” of the traditional, debatably not a real thing anymore, “5 day work week” and can see the weekend on the horizon. We have coined the term #Friyay because, “YAY!”, it’s the unofficial start to the weekend.
Obviously, we live for the weekend; but how do we dress for the weekend? The typical #Friyay fashion conundrum. We have all been there, including my 7 year old daughter. I’m sure most of y’all agree the answer to this should vary by age group and specifications of the weekend’s activities. And yes, do yourself a favor know the category where you fall.
But whether youthfully aging or just youthful, having set plans or having absolutely no plans, we can all agree being undecided about an outfit is the worst, especially on the weekends.
Trust me, I have years of #Friyay fashion conundrums under my belt. My advice for a solid weekend look: you can’t go wrong going with “casual-cute” route. Meaning a casual, yet stylish look. The “I tried but I didn’t try too hard” look. The “I made it through another week and I still got it” look.
Go casual, because the old adage “Fashion is Pain” doesn’t have to apply; and if I can help it, it won’t apply. Go cute, because there is a fine line between a “casual look” and “borderline homeless look”, which is a look even the best pair of stilettos can’t fix; unless you are Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen. I’ll give them a get out of fashion free card. They ARE the Olsen twins.
M point being, I feel weekends are made for you to do you! Weekends are a time to ditch the yoga pants or power suits, dust off the weekday whatevs and let your fashion flag fly. And this can most certainly be accomplished to create a weekend look that feels great literally and would have y’all being the IG inspo.
Looking stylish and feeling relaxed, or casual, at the same time is truly an ART form. The look I created for this write-up, to me, defines “casual-cute weekend”. Plus, its an ideal outfit for transitioning between seasons. This was a fall inspired outfit because of the warm colors, but can be worn on (Nashville) mild winter days. Head to toe, this outfit makes me feel put together in an effortless manner, but something I can wear all day without counting down the minutes until PJ time.
The warm orange tone of the sweater turtleneck creates a brighter, more comfy contrast to the trendy olive colored paper-bag pants with its darling details: ruffle accents and matching belt. The pant’s high-waist and cotton-like material both add elements of comfort; while the tapered ankles give the pants a more refined shape.
I went with suede open-toe fitted booties in a rust color to compliment the entire outfit. I believe shoes are always game changers; and a good pair of heeled booties will always put a comfy outfit in the stylish category. .
Not wanting to overdo it and keep this look more casual, I opted not to wear jewelry. Instead, I went with a rancher style olive hat with tiny details in the ribbon as my statement piece.
Hats are life and a true staple for any trendy human. This hat brings the outfit together. It allows me put more energy into my weekend than into making my hair look amazing. The outfit plus the hat, paired with some dry shampoo and natural makeup help me to smoothly transition into the weekend with confidence. I’m weekend ready with an outfit to impress others while keeping it low-key and comfortable.
