It’s time for a big girl room makeover! Keatyn has had the same themed bedroom for 5 years. Shabby chic/princess theme since birth. We had black and white with accents of pink but like every woman with a creative mind, my taste changed. It’s so hard to nail down a theme when your mind is a creative. My husband gets so frustrated with me because he says I’m constantly changing everything and I can’t stay happy. I’m sure he’s also fed up because he’s the one I make hang it all up (totally laughing as I type this). I basically had to bribe him with food to put this room together.
When I saw the new Junk Gypsy line for Pottery Barn Kids & Teen it screamed Nashville to me. My sweet girl loves horses and it felt like the perfect fit for her big girl room since she started Kindergarten this year. I’m not gonna lie to you either I kinda wanted to steal some of the decor for my room. And I still might just sneak a couple of pieces out. The bohemian vibe this theme has going makes momma happy. There’s a chance I might be trying to project my style on her.
For her little reading nook I actually used spice racks from Ikea and spray painted them to display her books. A quick tip for you from an avid DIY-er…spray paint and chalk paint works wonders. I use it to repurpose furniture all the time. It’s a quick and cheap way to get a new look. It was much cheaper than buying bookshelves. The wall colors are Repose Gray and Charming Pink by Sherwin Williams. I chose to do soft colors to brighten the room.
BEANBAG || DREAMER SIGN || HEART WITH WINGS || CROWN SHELF
Keatyn just got big girl furniture last year for Christmas and graduated out of her toddler bed. I love this PB set and it’s so versatile for your kids as they grow into teenagers. I know it’s easy to buy something cheap but take it from someone who has experienced it, quality goes a long way. It’s better to bite the bullet and invest in good furniture than to buy something cheap and have to replace it just a few years later. I did this when we moved in our house and it just felt like a waste because I ended up having to buy something nicer after 4 years anyway.
I also am using a $30 step stool as a nightstand (that I also spray painted) to make it multi functional for her to reach things like her books if she needs to. One of my fears is falling furniture and although we safely secure all furniture, it still gives me peace of mind to have the stool so she doesn’t feel the need to climb the furniture.
As you can tell, she loves her bean bag. It’s huge and the perfect little spot for her to unwind after school. Keatyn has been so tired after school so I make it a mission to distant some quiet time to calm down and maybe have a snack. The crown shelf is gorgeous and a distressed white mild steel shelf. The Dreamer sign is gold (it’s so bright you can’t tell) and can also be used as storage by tucking photos behind it or hanging necklaces on it.
BLAZE YOUR OWN TRAIL MURAL || WIRE PHOTO HOLDER
One of my favorite parts of the room is the wall mural with horses. I layered it with the Junk Gypsy wire photo holder and I am so pleased with how it turned out. If you can’t tell I have an obsession with photos so to give a space to incorporate that makes me super giddy. Keep scrolling for this gorgeous bedding.
BRAMBLE ROSE QUILT || EL PASO STRIPED THROW || BISCUIT PILLOW || OWL PILLOW || GUITAR PILLOW
WINGED HEART SHEETS
Ok the bedding! The bedding is the most comfortable ever, believe me I’ve slept there because that’s what happens when you have kids. And I’m kinda dying over the country as a biscuit pillow.
BEADED CHANDELIER || FAUX FUR RUG || CROCHET CURTAINS || WING CLOCK
We took the fan down in her room to put up this beaded chandelier. (Btw if you live in Nashville JDS Electric is great for your electrician needs. Message me for his number.) Her new curtains are great and block out the light when we wanna sleep in on the weekends. The lace detail is so pretty also.
CAVE CHAIR || FUR SLEEPING BAG || MACRAME HAMPER || GUITAR JEWELRY CASE (Currently not in stock)
Ok earlier when I said I wanted to steal some of this for my own room…well here are a few of the things. First off the macrame hamper is my favorite. I personally have been looking for a cute hamper I could put in my room that still looked like decor. I might just have to get one of these for myself because it also matches our bedroom. Also the fur sleeping bag. I don’t personally need it for myself but I LOVE the print. It makes me wanna take a trip so I can use it. Keatyn has sleepovers with her friends often and she also has a trundle-bed. It’s a great addition to her room for this reason. The guitar case that doubles as jewelry storage unfortunately is no longer in stock but its super cool!
Lastly the cave chair. Man I honestly stole the cave chair for a little bit for mommy’s unwinding time. I am obsessed with chips like this and actually have two similar that are on my porch. It’s like my little oasis.
Is it bad to say I’m jealous of my 5 year old’s room? I had to share a bedroom with my annoying little brother growing up and look at this kid’s room. Simply spectacular. I hope she loves it as much as momma does. Pottery Barn Kids has such great finds and currently most of this stuff is on sale so act fast! Make sure to check out my Instagram for a $500 giveaway.
